Latching Solenoids requires only a momentary excitation pulse to change position with spring or other load providing return force.

Latching Solenoids are ideally suited to applications where moving time is very short compared to holding time in end position and either end position have to be maintained for prolonged period.

Latching Solenoids have been developed espcially for locking mechanisms. They can be driven in either direction and hold in either endposition with no power applied. For the movement they just need a short power pulse.

The most important characteristics are:

  • Power consumption is zero
  • power dissipation (heat) is zero in holding position
  • no radiated electrical noise
  • ability to hold end position without power
